50 Cent: “I Get Money” over Grammy’s
March 3rd, 2008 · by Gyant · No Comments

Is there a conspiracy involving the Grammy’s and 50 Cent? Amidst all the hoopla these past few months regarding the prestigious Grammy awards there’s been noticeable absence; 50 Cent. Though he’s dominated the charts, licensing, tours, clothing [well at least for a little while at least] there seems one thing he can’t seem to get his hands on. And that’s a little golden award from his peers acknowledging all his achievements. In a recent interview with MTV the bad boy of hip-hop spoke on the constant oversight[s] saying:
“I did say, Kanye gets the trophies, 50 gets the checks’ [in a previous interview],” Fif recalled. “I was saying that because when the awards shows came, they overlooked me, forgot to acknowledge my accomplishments. Anytime the Grammys came, every time the award shows came, they overlooked me. You know why — because of where I come from and how I was raised. They project that to middle America. Oh my goodness, their kids might wanna be like me!”
As outlandish as his comments may seem, could the man have a point? Let’s take a look at the facts for one moment. Get Rich or Die Tryin was the number one selling album for 2003 but lost the, “Best Rap Album,” Grammy award to, Speakerboxx/The Love Below. He clearly got robbed for best new artist that year, losing to Evanescense. 50’s second release, “The Massacre,” sold over a million records in four days and was the second best selling album for the year. The Massacre ended up losing, “Best Rap Album,” to Kanye’s, “Late Registration.”
So while it seems that fiddy is easily a fan favorite, when it comes to his peers to cast their vote it seems that he’s more of the underdog.
