Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story opens in theaters everywhere on Friday, but thanks to the insanity Judd Apatow shows when marketing his movies, fans have had nothing but loads of Cox to play with.
Dewey Cox, played by John C Reilly, kicked off a 7 city concert tour which started in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for members of the Dewey Cox fan club and lucky winners of local radio contests. The team also released the complete first 10 minutes of the movie as well as extra scenes like the one below where Dewey Cox learns about the wonders of Marijuana.
In fact there has been so much viral marketing for the Dewey Cox movie that Craig Robinson confronts Judd calling him a racial slur and accusing him of making everything into a promotion. Check it out here below:
Free concerts are not the only promotion that the Dewey Cox team has put together. Playphone has a deal to release free ringtones and wallpapers from the movie, as well as a swag box shaped like an amplifier and containing a pair of autographed underwear and a calendar of one nude Dewey Cox decorating a Christmas tree.
There is even a facebook application for people to support Dewey Cox on their profile pages within Facebook.
