Hollywood almost went up in flames over the weekend as a blaze at the Universal Studios lot sound stage claimed famous landmark movie facades, most notably the clock tower town center featured in Back to the Future and TV shows like The Ghost Whisperer, Monk and House. A New York city-scape used in the Transformers and Spider-man movies was also damaged, but in true Hollywood fashion, the show went on as 2008 MTV Movie Awards took center stage.
Taking the best movie award was said Transformers, with Johnny Depp taking two awards for best comedic performance (Pirates of the Caribbean) and best villain (Sweeney Todd). Best male performance went to Will Smith (I am Legend) and best female performance went to Ellen Page (Juno).
MTV brought out the music hits as well as The Pussycat Dolls and Coldplay performed live. Check out their performances:
In other, maybe less earth-shattering news if you view it this way, Lindsay Lohan has apparently been “outed” by her own father as being lesbian. Lindsay and her friend Samantha Ronson were recently caught by paparazzi in a “close moment” to which her dad mentioned that their relationship “is evident to anyone with half a brain”. He later back-pedalled saying it was taken out of context but that hasn’t stopped celeb weeklies from offering up to $1 million to Lindsay for giving them the exclusive coming out story.
Someone who won’t be coming out soon, in a different context, is Ashlee Simpson who has cancelled her Summer tour. Not only is she pregnant and needs to forgoe the daunting concert schedule, but apparently her new album and concert tickets were selling at a lackluster pace.
I know you Ashlee Simpson fans are crushed.
