All good things sadly do have to come to an end! After 12 years on Broadway, international tours, and a movie featuring the original Broadway cast. Rent has officially closed on Broadway! The musical opened in New York in 1996 and was the recipient of four Tony awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Most memorable songs include: ‘Seasons of Love’, ‘Today 4 U’, and ‘La Vie Boheme’.
Check out my personal favorite, ‘Seasons of Love’
To reach out to all Rent heads across America, Sony recorded the final Broadway performance. Only 4 showings over 4 days at local theaters. As one of those who went to watch it, I have to say it was almost like watching a live show. We even had a 10 min intermission! There were times in the theater when you thought you had gone to a sing-a-long show. Everyone hummed or sang bits and pieces of ‘Seasons of Love.’ After each song was performed the audience erupted in to applause the first few songs, until we realized there was really no reason to clap. As one of my favorite musicals I’m sad to see it close. It’s okay I’ve still got the Original Broadway Cast recording and the DVD.
