As many of you know music will have its own version of the Super Bowl that’s happening this upcoming weekend. The 50th Annual Grammy’s will air live this Sunday pitting today’s most popular artists against each other to garner critical acclaim for their music projects from 2007. Like every year the competition is thick as today’s most popular artists like Beyonce, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna and Jay-Z, Keyshia Cole, and others could walk away with their own personal golden trophies.
In this years “Record of The Year” category - it’s going to be a real stiff competition as the singer who made going to rehab interesting - is pit up against other Grammy alums like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and the Foo Fighters. While it has yet to be determined if the British vocalist will be granted a traveling visa to attend this year’s ceremony, [her current alleged drug habit is apparently a major concern for officials] a win for her would solidify her talent(s) to deliver soulful music that is both timeless, and powerful. While I wont go as far as to discount the other nominees. As far as Amy is concerned, in my opinion there is no competition.
Another popular category is “Best Contemporary R&B Album”. This category is going to be extremely interesting because one of the nominees is more considered to be of a hip-hop influence rather then a straight up R&B artist. Akon, who’s had an amazing year with his top selling album “Konvicted”, as well as a well publicized sex scandal, is competing with other stellar singers like, Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo, Fantasia, and Emily King. While I’m not familiar with the latter, I know self proclaimed African has some stiff competition with Keyshia Cole’s Just Like You, and Ne-Yo’s Because Of You.
Out of all nominees this year, I’m going with Amy Winehouse’s,“Rehab”, for “Record Of The Year. And Ne-Yo’s, Because Of You, for “Best Contemporary R&B Album”.
